'songs from the water's edge part one' album cover

His 2002 album, Songs from the Water's Edge Part One, was rated excellent by Cross Rhythms magazine, who said:

This is classy singer-songwriter stuff - high quality production [with] spare instrumentation. The lyrics [are] poetry... Definitely an album to listen to when you feel mellow, it's late, and there's a glass of something in your hand. Lovely stuff.

In 2006, John wrote and, with an extremely talented group of local musicians, recorded three songs for the campaign to save two local hospitals from closure. These were released on CD along with a fourth track by the fabulous Ruth Royall. The Stroud News and Journal called it:

A delightfully infectious CD

and said:

Dougherty's slick folky leanings would sweeten the bitterest pill... the lyrical impetus keeps the message rolling out in fine fashion. [This is] an excellent record.

Solo or with a band, John has played at a number of prestigious venues and festivals - including the Watch This Space event at the Royal National Theatre in London.
